2020: Taft School (CT) and Deerfield Academy (MA) bring home the gold in the 8th annual NHSLS
The Red Session concluded on Wednesday, July 29th, with Deerfield Academy (MA) winning the championship over Westminster (CT), 9 to 5. This is Deerfield’s second NHSLS Championship.
The White Session concluded on Friday, July 31st, with new comer Taft School (CT), bringing home their first NHSLS Championship. Taft defeated a very talented McDonogh (MD) team, 11-3.
With a limited field of 38 teams between both sessions, due to COVID concerns, the attending teams still encountered stiff competition, while enduring 90-degree temperatures. The championship teams had to navigate eight team playoff brackets, to win the titles.
In an exciting development for the NHSLS and the participating teams, ESPNU carried five games live for a national viewing audience. Mike Corey was on the play by play, as well as Quint Kessenich, arguably the most knowledgeable, respected, and longest tenured lacrosse commentator, roaming the sidelines. While the loss of everyone’s 2020 high school lacrosse seasons will never be replaced, the NHSLS afforded those schools fortunate enough to be able to play, a moment in time of capturing a lost spring.
Congratulations to all the programs that participated in the 2020 NHSLS!
